My opinion towards Pro. Hofstede’s research

Working is a vital stage for everyone; therefore, workplace also plays an important role in our lives which will influence our performances of working. From the research of Pro. Hofstede (http://geert-hofstede.com/malaysia.html), he stated that culture will influence the values in workplace through five terms which are power distance, individualism, masculinity or femininity, uncertainly avoidance, and long-term orientation and I do agree with all of his results in this research.
- First of all, I agree with the power distance that he explained. According to this research, Malaysia scores very high which is 104 and this shows that Most of the Malaysian accept the distribution unequally. From my opinion, Malaysian are always afraid to make trouble or being in troubles. Hence, they will accept the inequalities in everything even though they think it’s not fair to them.
- Second, I also agree with him that he said Malaysia is a collectivist society. In Malaysia, group works are really important and the government often encourages Malaysian to maintain an intimate relationship with their families. Besides that, Malaysia government always encourages the residents to show their loyalty to Malaysia. Therefore, I can conclude that Malaysia is a collectivist society.
- Third, Malaysia is considered as a masculine society. I think it’s completely true which is “live in order to work”. In Malaysia, the ultimate goal of most of the people is to make money in their lives especially those avaricious people. Hence, Malaysian are working hard to make money for a better life.
- Fourth, he stated that Malaysia scores 36 on uncertainty avoidance which means Malaysian are not really prefer laws and rules and they prefer not to have hard work unless it is necessary. Therefore, sometimes Malaysian are considered as lazy people.
Maybe my opinions will offend others or even Malaysian, but I just want to remind you guys everyone has different opinions just like my opinion does not same with yours. Therefore, I will respect your opinion if you do respect my opinion too!Feel free to give your opinion , I’m really appreciate it! ^_^
